Be an Economist
Event Description: Every year more than a hundred colleges throughout India hold their economic
fests. Each of these fests has an event quite similar in genre to Be An Economist. Why should you
then choose to participate in Be An Economist over its hundred or so substitutes? Simply because it
is the only Economics centric event which requires no specific knowledge of the subject on the part
of its participants. What it does require though is a good level general awareness, keen attention
to details and common sense. Participants will need to innovate, improvise, analyse, debate and
appease to stake a claim on the prize. How many of the above can you learn by going through
Mankiw?
Date and Time : 27th Sptember, 1: 30 PM
Rules and Format
1. Teams can contain a maximum of two members. Single member teams ARE allowed.
2. Event will consist of three rounds. The first round will require teams to analyse situations and
apply basic notions of rational human behaviour. The second round will be all about convincing
fellow economists that a particular stand is correct. The final round will have teams trying to
appease the common crowd with little to no knowledge of economic principles. Teams are also
advised to expect abrupt surprises.
